Reading List for January

We’re sharing what we’re reading this month! It is no surprise that relationships are at the heart of everything we do. Naturally, the books that ended up on our shelves reflect that: twinships, mother-daughter bonds, marriages, and friendships are on our mind. 

“Actress” by Anne Enright

Mother-daughter relationship is at the heart of this story. Norah, the daughter of a famous Irish theater actress grows up in the shadow of her famous mother, Katherine O’Dell,  and now has to bear her legacy. 

“IRL” by Chris Stedman

How do you find realness, meaning, and belonging in our digital lives? As PMU artists, authenticity and showing up for each other is always on our mind. 

“The Vanishing Half” by Brit Bennett

The Vignes twins are Black sisters who grow up to occupy different worlds: one by passing as white, and one embracing her true racial identity. Bennett takes us from the Deep South to California over the span of 40 years to follow the twins’ lives. 

“What Are You Going Through” by Sigrid Nunez

A woman describes the encounters she has with people in the course of her life: an ex, an Airbnb owner, a childhood friend, and a stranger. Relationships that are fleeting as well as those that seem to reappear in our lives? Totally relatable. 

“We Gather Together” by Denise Kiernan

There’s a deep thirst for healing and togetherness -- literally and figuratively. Kiernan’s newest looks like the history of how we’ve come together again and again, with an emphasis on giving thanks. Sounds exactly like what we need on Thanksgiving and any time of the year.
